IVI compliance package 2.1 install error 1714

I am attempting to install the IVI compliance package 2.1 which I just downloaded from the website. During the installation I received an error 1714 message. "The NI IVI Engine 2.0 installation has failed with the following error. Error 1714. The older version of the NI IVI Engine 2.0 cannot be removed."

I found that my PC had version 1.83 registered. I unistalled that, rebooted, and then tried to install 2.1 again, but I got the same error.

What next?

Hello,

This error is probably occurring because NI IVI Engine 1.83 has not been completely removed from the system, as you have guessed. Try the following steps to remove 1.83:

Remove all "IVI" entries in the "National Instruments Software" group in Add/Remove programs. Also, if IVI Engine was installed with a software package such as LabVIEW, go into this specific software's installer and remove it from there, as it will show up as an "option" under that installer.

Please let me know if you require further assistance, or are still getting this behavior.

Hi Rich,

Before we suggest a solution, we would like to obtain some more information about your system:

1. What NI products were installed before running the IVI Compliance Package installer? Please list the full product names and versions.

2. After you encountered the installation error, were you able to continue with the installation?
a. If yes, and you continued with the installation, did the installation complete?
b. If yes, and you aborted the installation, then we recommend that you re-run the installer and allow it to continue after you receive the error.

3. What versions of the following files do you have on your system?
Windows System\ivi.dll
Program Files\IVI\bin\ividmm.dll
Program Files\IVI\bin\ivisharedcomponentversion.dll

4. Fin
ally, please download and install the attached program (MSISPY.msi).

- Run MSISPY and select 'File >> View Installed Products' from the program menu.
- Wait until you can expand the 'My Computer' icon in the left hand pane.
- Select 'File >> Save Current State' from the program menu and send us the file you saved.

Note: Do not try to install or uninstall any MSI components using the MSISPY utility!

I'm having a similar problem. In installing the 7.1 version of NI-DAQ, I got two 1714 errors (older version of ni ivi engine 2.0 cannot be removed) and (older version of ni0ivi provider for Max cannot be removed). I proceded to try to uninstall everything relatecx to NI. ther were a few items that I could not get rid of (in looking at control_panel/add/remove programs. I then re-installed labview 7.0. It went fine. then re-installed DAQ 7.1 and got the same two errors. I selected to proceed at both error prompts. The installation eventually finished but said it failed at the end....then prompted me to re-boot. After re-boot. The system did find my new hardware and I can see sigals in the test panels. Does this mean that everything is OK. OR sh
ould I worry about those 1714 error messages?
