Installation failed installing NI488.2 on Windows 7

I am trying to install the NI488.2 driver version 2.8 on a new Windows 7 machine. I get multiple installation errors. Attached are a screen shot of the first error message and the Windows 7 information screen so you know what version of W7 I am running.

I have tried everything I can think of to get this installed. I even uninstalled all NI software products; searched for and removed all registry entries with National Instruments in them; downloaded the installer several times. I don't know what else to try.

Can anyone tell me if I am missing something? Do I have the wrong version or the wrong installer?

Thanks for any help,

Joe

Hello Joe,

If you click continue whent this message appears, does the rest of the driver install properly? Will you be installing 488.2 support on a PXI system in your application? What happens if you just the PXI Platform Services installer on its own?

Thanks,

Anna

Anna,

No, if I hit next, I get a similar error for another piece. Eventually, it ends and says the whole installation has failed. I also have no intentions of installing this on any PXI platform as I have no PXI hardware.

BTW, after I posted this on the forum, I found our support contract number and have been working this issue with an NI engineer via direct email.

So, please feel free to ignore or close this as you see fit.

Thanks for your help,

Joe

Good to hear Joseph, when you come to a resolution with our support team you can post the answer here as well if you like, for anyone else who may come accross this behavior.

Have a great day,

Hello Joseph, could you also let me know the service request number that you have with our engineer?

Thanks,

Anna,

The reference number is Reference#7300719. An interesting note on this. I have all along felt that this problem was not a Windows 7 issue and just an issue with this aprticular machine. However, just as I was reviewing your post, another engineer came to my office asking for help. He is having the exact same problem (same error message) trying to install the NI 488.2 drivers on his new Windows 7 laptop. However, it looks like he is trying to install version 2.5 (I am installing 2.8).

The last message I had from Adam, the NI engineer working this support issue for me, indicated that he was referring this to R&D.

I will send him an email indicating that we now have two separate machines having the same problem.

Thanks for your help,

Joe

Anna,

I got the situation resolved. It turns out the problem was that I needed to turn off the anti-virus software. I know this is always recommend. But this is a real pain for us here as we have to get our IT department involved and it has never been a problem before. I guess with Windows 7, it is a real problem.

I found this out from a coworker who recently got a new W7 machine and had a similar problem installing NIDAQ. Turning off the anti-virus software worked for her. I tried it and it worked for me.

Thanks for all your help,

Joe

It looks like disabling the anti-virus (Trend Micro) also fixed my Windows 7 installation woes.

Thanks!

Yes, Trend Micro is what we are using as well.
