Installing a GPIB-PCII board under Win98

* I installed correctly the NI-488.2 version 1.60 software (I can see it in Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs).
* I configured and installed correctly the GPIB-PCII board (the Device Manager - Computer/Properties - reports that the device works properly).
* When I run Getting Started Wizard, the Troubleshooting Wizard succesfully verifies the presence of the NI-488.2 software and GPIB Hardware, but the GPIB Interface Sequentially Verification fails. When I double click on the name of my board, I get the following error message:

"Unknown Hardware Error:

An unknown GPIB hardware error has been encountered. The basic problem is that your hardware is not being correctly recognized by the system. Several of the possible causes for this problem are listed below:

1. Your GPIB interface is incorrectly configured or installed. Please verify that your GPIB interface is correctly configured and installed. For GPIB hardware configuration and installation instructions, please refer to the "GPIB Hardware Guide" which is installed with the NI-488.2 Software and can be viewed using the "View Documentation" option on the NI-488.2 Software CD autorun utility or through the online help for Measurement & Automation Explorer.

2. Your GPIB interface is not working properly.
Please verify that your GPIB interface is working properly by looking for it in the Device Manager and verifying that it doesn't have either an 'X' or '!' associated with it. To open the Device Manager, follow these steps:

a. Start the control panel by selecting "Start>>Settings>>Control Panel", open the "System" icon and select the "Device Manager" page.
b. Select "View devices by type" and then select the "National Instruments GPIB Interfaces" item.
c. Examine the listed GPIB interfaces to see if any of them have an 'X' or '!' on the eagle icon.
d. View the Properties of any 'X' or '!' GPIB interfaces. Use the "Device status" information on the "General" tab to help you troubleshoot the problem.

3. If your GPIB interface is installed correctly and appears to be working properly, try restarting your computer and rerunning the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard. If problems persist, contact National Instruments for more help."

Do you have any idea of what can be wrong?

Do you have an instrument connected to the GPIB board when you are running the Troubleshooting Wizard? Sometimes the board fails the "Sequentially Verified" test if an instrument is connected. Try disconnecting the instrument and running the test again.

There may also be a resource conflict. Try changing the IRQ that you are using to another one that you know is free.

For additional troubleshooting suggestions and installation techniques, go to the "GPIB Installation and Configuration" website at the URL below.

Uninstall....everything!!! for the GPIB (SW and HW). Recycle your computer on-off (shutdown/startup) a couple of times to give the operating system to reconfigure "itself". Then, install the software for the GPIB in default directories shown by the software install routine. Do not run the applications to look for hardware when you finishing installing the software. Shut the computer down. Install the GPIB hardware. Run the hardware installation program that you previously installed or if your system is "plug-and-play" enabled it will automaticallly detect the new hardware and find the NI Gpib driver. Follow the instructions and all should be okay.

Only one other glitch that may occur is in the setup menu in the NI application. This is the selection for the
communications protocol for National Instrument (NI) cards.

It is critical to have the NI software driver installed prior to the system looking for the new hardware otherwise it defaults to a "Microsoft" generic driver that usually will not work.

I have the similar problem while installing PCI-GPIB.OS is Win98II and GPIB software is V1.5.
When I reboot the computer, computer found the new hardware, but it showed some error prompt that it is because of resouse conflict or your uncorrect installation of GPIB driver.
It is not first time my installing it.I thought it is a easy work before. I reinstall the board because my application crash.
