LabView doesn't recognize Contec GPIB-Card

Hello,

we bought a new PC for our lab. Now we have Win 7 64 Bit, Labview 2012 Sp1.

When i tried to install the Contec GPIB (PCI)F-Card, everything worked in the device manager. I can send and receive via the driver-page in the device manager. Nevertheless Labview doesn't "see" the device in MAX and all my VIs doesn't work anymore. On my old system the GPIB-Card was inside the MAX-software and i used the GPIB write and GPIB Read VIs from Labview.

Moreover I have the following questions:

1. Anyone know how to install the device in MAX?

2. Would there be an alternative? Can i communicate with my device although its not in MAX? (Because its working via the property-page in the device manager)

best regards

In general, MAX is only for NI products. The GPIB functions are only for NI GPIB controllers. In order for MAX to see a third-party card and for LabVIEW to use it, you must install the vendor's version of VISA, enable tulip support in MAX, and then use VISA functions in LabVIEW.

It is a passport. When you select VISA in MAX, it is a property. I am posting from my phone so I cannot attach an image.

I don't know why it is called tulip but it is the method to enable GPIB controllers other than ones from NI.

Dear Dennis,

i activated this tulip, but nothing changes. The card is still not visible in Labview and every attempt to comunicate via labview failed. Moreover i used the GPIB-commands in my VIs. I'm not sure if its a labview problem or if the CONTEC-labview driver is just not working.

Why would it be a LabVIEW problem? Is there actually a VISA driver from contec? That is the established standard for compatabiliy and it is up to the vendor to provide a VISA library for their hardware. You need to start aking questions of contec. The easiest solution would be to use an NI device. What is your time worth and how much time have you spent on the problem?

Did you install per the 2nd note listed here?

Do their LabVIEW examples run?

Hi AK2DM,

yes the copylite-File is in the same folder as the NConfig.exe.
And no unfortunatly the sample VIs don't work.
