MAX and its database, a word to the programmers

Hello!

In former version of MAX it didn't require services. Now I got the 4.6.0 version and while starting it, it tells an error about the database. The error is actually not related to the problem that caused it, the missing (=not running) service(s).

Those services, that are actually required to run MAX correctly, do not need to run by default so they should be set to manual.

Why does MAX not start these services if it requires them?

Why are users told by article http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/F24AA9FB6A3A0E9D86257539006141BE?OpenDocument&metc=MAXTermina... to set the start type to "Automatic"?

Services that are only used for  a certain program should not run all the time, because they make the system unstable and consume RAM and CPU time.

With LabView 7 and some add-ins like VISA there are 7 background services installed which are obviously not of use for daily work with LabView.

OK, but when installing the most recent version of NI488, with MAX 4.6.0 included, it installs another two services.

Where do you want to go, National Instruments?

Weren't you previously talking about this before?

Not quite. This is about MAX in particular.

And, besides, about the growing madness of software programmers to put a lot of new (and never used?) features into every new version, wasting HDD space and RAM and resources. ;o)

Not to mention the increasing user restriction to decide what part of the whole package he is going to use and thus going to install.

I was referring to your complaining about the services.

Yes, of course. It's not more than a useless attempt of one single person. Most of the users don't seem to care about such things. Sometimes it even seems they don't care about anything.

I care about this. Everything else is relative.

There's help for that.
