NI-488.2 1.7 and VISA compatibility

Hi!

I wonder if NI-488.2 1.7 (2002) is compatible with any NI-VISA version or if it is better to install a NI-Visa version from a similar year (2002)

I'm asking this because i'm finding problems with NI-488.2 1.7 and the latest version of NI-VISA 5.0.2.

Thank you.

Why would you want to use such an ancient version of NI-488.2? You have a similar post asking about NI-VISA and LabVIEW 2009, so trying to install an old version of NI-VISA that came out at the time as the NI-488.2 makes no sense since it will not support LabVIEW 2009. Why don't you just download the latest version of NI-488.2?

There is a reason in the background. I need that version because i'm using and old AT-GPIB/TNT (ISA) that needs that driver

Hi, PabloT,
I am interested, has the third test passed by your device?
I also have AT-GPIB/TNT but I can't correctly configure hardware. I tried all combinations of I/O, IRQ and DMA and every time the third test was failed.
I use LabVIEW 2009, drivers version is 1.7, Windows XP.
If you have some information to configure the card please share it.

HI MistD,

Firstly, before i installed NI-VISA 5.0.2, my device passed the 3 steps. I could use it without any kind of problems. Can you remind me which is the third test?

I contacted NI engineers and my problem is an issue of corruption installation, nothing related to the GPIB card. I installed different versions of NI-488.2 and VISA and it seems i corrupted the program....

So your computer detects your GPIB card but it doesn't pass the third test?

My problem at the beginning was that i couldn't configure the card correctly. I also tried differents options of DMA, IRQ and I/O, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was that i was using a wrong version of the drivers NI-488.2. But it seems you are doing it right...

I also installed NI-VISA 5.0.2, then I installed drivers NI-488.2.1.7. After I add GPIB interface using Start>Programs>NI>NI488.2>Add GPIB interface. The utility proposed me configuration of I/O, IRQ and DMA. I used this info to switch jumpers. And when I turned on the computer I loaded Getting Started NI-488.2. There was 3 steps: NI-488.2 Software Presence Verified; GPIB Hardware Presence Verified and GPIB Interface Sequentially Verified. The last one was failed.
In Windows Device Manager I read that the drivers wasn't installed correctly. But I reinstalled it and the situation was the same.
Could you write sequence of your installation.
Regards.

First I installed NI-488.2 1.7. After doing this, the device manager said that it was correctly installed. And it was true. The card worked and it passes the 3 test. I remember that in the device manager, if you double click the AT/GPIB device, there was one tab (maybe details tab) where you can click "Automatic configuration" or "manual" or something like that. I clicked manual i think. I can't verify it now because i haven't got access to that computer.

Anyway, i warn you that with NI-VISA 5.0.2 i couldn't make it work...Try installing older version. The problem is that if you do this, maybe you corrupt the installation like me...

I suggest you writing a NI engineer. Maybe they can help you more than i can: https://sine.ni.com/srm/app/myServiceRequests/p/tab/getassistance

I have already written to NI engineer, but I got any answer at all.

Can you tell me, do you have some files like GBIB.inf in c:\windows\system32\ or c:\windows\system32\drivers\

Hi,

Sorry for the delay.

Right now I can't check it because the computer is in the laboratory. I will check it soon and answer you.

Bye
