NI 488.2 Version 2.5 NPLV80Win32.dll Error

When installing the GPIB Version 2.5 software on an XP machine, I get an error message "Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\8.0\Browser Plugins\Mozilla\NPLV80Win32.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory."  about 3/4 of the way through the installation.  I am logged on to the PC with administrative privleges.  I install using just the default settings (and am NOT using LabVIEW).  I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling - with the same results.  I've tried another CD - same results.

I have seen this happen due to one of the optional protection mechanisms provided in McAfee antivirus. Try disabling your anti-virus software's real-time scan while installing the software.

The problem is that the installation is installing a browser plugin, which one of the McAfee features prevents.

Hi,

I also see this error during the LV 8.0 RUntime install, however I do not have the luxury of  disabling the mcafee scanner, as corporate policies do not permit this.  Does NI have any other solution for this.

You could ask your IT department to change your security level during installation, and then bumping it back up again after the installation is complete.  You might also submit a false positive report to McAfee.
