NI VISA 3.4 & 488.2 2.43 Problems

Ok when I install my NI VISA drivers so I can communicate with my FujiKara Fiber Splicer via serial port my NI GPIB card is no longer working or configured in MAX or 488.2 utilities.  If I uninstall the NI VISA then the GPIB card works along with MAX and 488.2 utilities but then I can no longer communicate with my Fiber Splicer via the serial port.

Is there some conflict with these two drivers?  Has anyone experienced this problem and has a solution

thanks in advance,
John Schafer.

VISA is supposed to work with GPIB, I have never had a problem with the two playing together and I have used versions of both drivers going back a number of years to the latest ones. I have no idea why it would not work. Have you tried uninstalling both VISA and the 488.2 drivers and then re-installing them?

Hi,

You should be able to use VISA for serial and GPIB at the same time (with different VISA sessions of course). I would start by upgrading to the latest VISA driver, but that should not be causing the problem. I agree with MJF that you should try uninstalling and reinstalling the GPIB driver as well. It could be a bad install, but I'm not sure.

What GPIB card do you have? Do you see any errors when the GPIB card works? Can you post screenshots of the errors that you see? Does the GPIB card still appear in Windows Device Manager when its not working? What behavior do you see when it doesn't work?
