NI-VISA boot problem, less than 4Gb of RAM

Hello,

I successfully installed NIKAL and NI-VISA on my OpenSuse 11.4, 32bits, 4Gb of RAM.

ion@alws36:/sbin> free
total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:       3959524    1121816    2837708          0      30132     702232
-/+ buffers/cache:     389452    3570072
Swap:      2099196          0    2099196

But, when I would like to start Visa Configuration Utility, pb :

ion@alws36:/sbin> dmesg

[   35.209745] Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
[   35.318071] [nipal] More than 4GB of addressable memory detected.
[   35.318073] [nipal] This configuration is not supported.  Check the release notes for more information.
[   35.803191] bootsplash: status on console 0 changed to on

I remove 2Gb of RAM, same problem.

I swapoff :

ion@alws36:/sbin> sudo ./swapoff -a

so now:

ion@alws36:/sbin> free
total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:       1880360     881764     998596          0      28712     521368
-/+ buffers/cache:     331684    1548676
Swap:            0          0          0

But the problem is still present.

I also tried by booting the system with the option :

mem=512M

Visa Configuration Utility worked, but the system does nor accept more memory with this option.

Thanks

Hi,

Which version of NI-VISA and NI-KAL are you using?

On this document you will find a list of supported distribution of Linux :

What Linux Distributions Do National Instruments Drivers and Software Support?

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/4857A755082E9E228625778900709661?OpenDocument

Could you try again with a fully tested configuration ?

Best regards,
