PCI-GPIB is not recognized

I've installed a PCI-GPIB 488.2 board on a system with LV7.1, but the installation does not recognize the board. It is a used, supposedly working board. I've tried driver version 2.4. The operating system is XP. 'Device manager', 'hardware' gives a question mark for the PCI device and states that the driver is not installed. The GPIB installation wizard does not detect a GPIB interface. Any idea on how to determine which drivers go with the board, or any other diagnostics suggestions?

Are you also sure, that the PCI slot used for the PCI-GPIB is no damaged ? Did you try it in another slot ?

Hey Dekay,
Try to remove the PCI-GPIB card, and uninstall the driver and reboot your computer. Install NI-488.2 version 2.4 and the shut down your computer and then plug in your card. It is allways a good practice to install the driver and then plug-in your hardware. Once the computer restarts Windows will pop-up a window of New hardware found and will then assign a correct driver to the PCI-GPIB card.

Nikhil A.

I was able to make the board work by installing drivers from ICS-Electronics, and replacing the gpib-32.dll file in the windows/system32 directory with the version that came with the ICS driver. The board works with LV programs, but does not show up in Measurement and Automation Explorer.  I don't know if it will cause problems later on, such as when upgrades are installed.
Previously, uninstalling the board drivers, shutting down the computer, removing the board, restarting, installing the NI drivers, shutting down, installing the board, and rebooting results in the windows installer message that it could not find a driver. Also, the Troublshooting Wizard says that no GPIB interfaces are configured on the system. The ICS drivers worked, though.
The board has a chip on it from ACCS Matchmaker, and PCI-488.2 at the top of the board. Let me know if there is a better solution, specific to this board.
Thanks

You should have mentioned at the beginning that you were not using an NI board. You always have to install drivers from the correct manufacturer. You also shouldn't expect that a configuration utility from NI will work with non-NI boards. You'll only have problems in the future if you again try to install NI drivers.

Unless ICS includes a VISA driver for their board, you will not be able to use the VISA functions and the vast majority of instrument drivers require VISA.

Hello xxls,

I don't know anything about this PCI-GPIB, but from the companie's website, I guess you will need these drivers to communicate with the card in XP (also linked from this page).  Howeve, you probably already have these drivers, since you can send messages to your board.

To use this device in LabVIEW, it seems you will need these LabVIEW libraries, which according to the website, com with the hardware.  I suggest you contact Measurement Computing if no one else posts on this thread.  (You can also look into purchasing an NI-PCI-GPIB ::))

In the future, I would suggest opening a new thread instead of posting to an old thread.

Let me know if this helps.

It would help if you explained how you are reading and writing to the instrument. You said you cannot get LabVIEW to work so what are you using? Also, you have not mentioned the make and model of the instrument.
