I have got a problem with my RS323 connection. I well plugged in my instruments but when I sent a IDN? there is no response. Nevertheless it works well with GPIB connection and Labview finds COM1 and COM2 ports.
You could have a mismatch between the com settings of the pc and the instrument. You could be using the incorrect type of serial cable. You might not be appending a required termination character to the end of the command. The possilby of mistakes with RS-232 are almost endless. You have to go through everything.
You could also help yourself here by providing some important details. Such as make and model of the instrument. Are you using a driver? If yes, exactly which one? If no, post your code.
