Problems loading passports in VISA

Hello,

I have just done a fresh install of Labview 8.6 on a Red Hat Linux 2.4 PC. Everything installed without a hitch. I want to communicate with a Prema 6001 multimeter via GPIB.

However, when starting the NIvisaic to test communication with the device, I get an error box stating that "At least one Passport on your system could not be loaded. You should run the NI-VISA configuration utility 'visaconf'".

Running this, I can not see any GPIB devices, and it does not help adding it manually.

I can communicate with the Prema using another in-house C++ program.

 Best

Jens

P.S. I am a complete labview noob.

Here are some more details: Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5, kernel 2.4.20-8, gcc version 3.2.2. The Prema 6001 is connected to a NI PCI-GPIB card.

I figured out that the NIvisaic complaint could be solved by unticking all the passports except for gpib and serial. I still don't see my gpib devices, though.

I tried running the gpibexplorer, but it complains that "libnipalu.so.1" can not be found.
Any help will be appreciated.

Another update: I found the GPIB troubleshooting wizard tool, which fails on the software verification, i.e. the driver is not correctly installed.

As instructed, I restarted and reinstalled, with no error messages. The problem persists though.

As always, any help is appreciated.

Best

Hi Jens,

Make sure you have installed the NI-488.2 which is the hardware driver for the PCI-GPIB.

You can download it from here.
