Running Host Devices on the Compact RiO

Hello Carlos,

Unfortunately I do not think that the sbRIO 9631 is capable of communicating to the Axis IP camera when using LabVIEW 2012 and the most current RIO Drivers. The 9631 has a 266 MHz processor and 64 MB DRAM, which may be too little processing power and memory to run all the required interface drivers as well as acquire from the Axis Camera. It may be possible to use LabVIEW 2009 and the associated driver pack instead as they are slightly smaller and less resource intensive than the newer versions.

I would recommend that any application where you would like to acquire from an IP camera have an sbRIO with a minimum of 400MHz processor and 128 MB DRAM or equivalent, such as the sbRIO 9602.

Thanks,

-Joel

Hello,

I wanted to ask you, is it possible to even run image processing applications with the sbRIO 9631? Would I need any additional drives? I need to include this in my report since I was under the impression that it could. Also the image processing is very slow when running on the sbRIO 9602. Do you know if it is possible to use image processing accurately with any of these two boards?

Thank you so much for your time,

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Since the sbRIO 9631 has such limited processing power, intense image processing is not an option with that hardware. For applications with inline image processing, we typically recommend using one of our Smart Cameras, which have greater processing power than the sbRIO 9631.

As for increasing the performance of the slow-running image processing on the 9602, you could look at optimizing your LabVIEW code to see if any improvements can be made. This article will help show you the various performance optimizations that can be made. I hope this helps!

Oh ok thanks David! Well the smart camera that I am using is one of the cameras that was recommended by an NI apps engineer. So there are no existing modules that I could use with the sbRIO9631? Thanks again for everyones help.

As stated above, the image processing modules are not recommended to run on the sbRIO 9631.
