Solved!

I am using a straight through cable.

I will post the NI Spy info late today.

Thanks for all the ideas.

I don't see any place in the manual that explains which type to use. In my experience, the majority of serial instruments require a null-modem.

Interesting... Since the manual called for a serial cable that supports hardware flow control and never mentioned null modem, I assumed I needed a straight through cable.

Could someone that at NI verify which cable that I need?

Thank you,

Have you seen this. I don't know if this KB article refers to the simulator model that you have or to the version 2 type. The help file for the version 2 type is definite about the need for a null modem cable.

Thanks for the info. I will try it with a null modem cable and see how it works.

Our NI Instrument Simulator requires a null modem cable.

The lack of a NULL modem cable was the problem.

I thought the Instrument Simulator manual would have mentioned something as vital as needing a NULL modem cable. Seems odd to me that the manual goes so far as to state the cable needs to support hardware flow control, but neglects to mention NULL modem.

Thank you oh great Knight who says NI. And, thank you Steven.
