My setup is three Agilent E3634A connected through an Agilent 82357b USB-GPIB adapter. I've enabled the NI-VISA "Passport for Tulip" box and my three E3634A now show up in MAX. The MAX test panel is able to communicate with the supplies. But, I am unable to perform a simple open-write-read using VISA VIs. I get the following error when the VISA Open executes:
VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF00A5) The interface type is valid, but the specified interface number is not configured.
The address of my power supply is GPIB0::5::INSTR. The alias set up in MAX is E3634A_One. I've tried using both of these strings as the input to the VISA Resource input of the VISA Open VI.
If an NI USB-GPIB adapter would make this simpler I'd consider attempting to return the Agilent device, but that's what came with the supplies.

Why not download the driver
http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.model_page?p_model_id=272
it will have examples also.

I have tried using the driver. I'm running into the same problem with the NI examples. My powered Agilent E3634 does not show up in the VISA resource name pulldown. The address that the E3634A shows up in MAX is GPIB0::5::INSTR. I've also assigned an alias. Neither of these work when manually typed into the VISA resource name field of the examples.
I am left feeling that the Agilent GPIB USB adapter must be part of the problem. Has anyone been able to use the VISA functions with GPIB instruments hanging off of an Agilent 82357b adapter?

Over a decade of using windows and I still haven't learned my lesson. If something doesn't work - reboot the pc. All of my GPIB devices now show up as valid resources in a visa resource name' constant.
The Agilent 82357b works just fine.

Neither has Microsoft, so don't feel too bad. ![]()
