Using RS 232C and DAQ 6009 to communicate and record data

Hi I'm new to serial and bus communication. I've never write a labVIEW code from scratch before and I'm not sure where to start. I have a potentiostat model 273 that I'm trying to communicate with using a RS 232C connection. I've set up all the parameters such as baud rate, stop bit, etc so that the parameters on the potentiostat and the computer match. Now I need to write a code that will allow me to control the device through LabVIEW as well as receive data in a waveform format. I'm not sure if this is possible using just the RS 232 cable so I also have a DAQ 6009 that is connected to the device. I want to know if its possible to do all of this in one code and if not how I would go about communicating and logging data.

Why don't you just tell your manager that you have no clue how to do this project?

it's a very old device. no one i've asked so far knows how to work it and the company we got it from will not answer any of my calls. i was just put on this project 5 weeks ago. i'm not experienced with this. i had no choice of project. i'm just trying to figure out how to write a code for it. but if no one on this forum is going to be helpful just tell me and i'll stop asking

It doesn't matter if she is clueless about *how* to do the project.

She only needs to find, i.e. hire someone who does *know* how to make the project work.

So, far she hasn't been successful, has she?

You have been given very good advice by Dennis K.

The fact that you are not capable of implementing what he suggests (refer to http://forums.ni.com/t5/Instrument-Control-GPIB-Serial/communicating-with-par-273/td-p/2480688 )

indicates that you should go back to your manager and tell her that this project is beyond your capability.

No one here is going to do your job for you, if that is what you mean by "help".
