VISA with serial communication

 VISA and serial communication, is somewhat new to me.

I am trying some simple program to use VISA using RS-232 cable which I have connected from PXI-8108 controller and to another PC.

1.I tried to use the MAX and identifed the COM1 and the test panel

2. But if I try to use some simple two port basic read and write example there is error.

3. Then I also added a COM2 port for the PC but it also is not connected and could not validate the info.

What is VISA device wizard? When should I use VISA resource string? or the Loopback test.

What are the basic steps to start the VISA serial interface?

If I have connected the my PC to the PXI, how can I configure in MAX?

You have to open the serial port, then write or read to/from it and then close the port when done. It is quite easy really. Be sure to use the VISA Open

serial port tool to set the com port settings properly.

The PXI can be connected to the PC with the MXI cable and the MXI driver. Once the Platform services DVD with the MXI interface is loaded and

you reboot the PXI, the MXI interface and PXI box should be seen by MAX. Be sure the PXI box is on before the computer is turned on or rebooted.

This is necessary so the MXI interface gets enumerated in the PC system properly.
