Vista finds XP inf file instead of Vista inf file

Hello,
Using the VISA Driver Wizard, I made RAW USB .inf files for both XP and Vista (they are different). However Vista Home does not give the User an option to pick the .inf file (one is labelled Vista, and the other XP so it's pretty obvious). Instead Vista just picks the XP one everytime, and then proceeds to fault because the inf file is wrong. Does anyone know how to fix this.

Some keywords:  incorrrectly open wrong file. opens Xp .inf instead of Vista .inf file

Sleuthing around the problems other people are having, I'd say this is a fairly common problem, but they don't realize what is going on. Any help greatly appreciated.

Bart,

The easiest way to avoid this is to just remove the XP ini from the Vista System. Another issue you will find, it that Vista thinks it is helping you out by choosing the ini that was created most recently if there is no other version information available. So if you create the Vista ini last, it should also get you around this problem as well.

Hello Marshall,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately we cannot have only the Vista .inf - our CD has to cover both Vista and XP installs. We will make it so it is the most recent file, and the first in the directory list. You said 'if there is no other version information'. I've had a look at Microsoft support, and it makes the suggestion that for printer drivers, you can use the PackageAware catalog mechanism supported for the Core printer drivers. Do you know if this mechanism is also open to Visa?

Thanks,  Bart

Bart,

I haven't had a chance to try this, but from reading about PackageAware, it is a feature that you you should be able to use with a VISA driver. You should be able to take your XP and Vista VISA drivers and combine them according to the documentation from the Widows Driver Kit and use PackageAware to allow for multiple OS support. Please post back and tell me how it goes. I am very curious, and I think it may be a great feature to add to future versions of the Driver Wizard in VISA.
