What model/version of NI product to purchase?

I'm supporting a variety of 16-bit DOS applications running on DOS and Windows 95 machines with GPIB-PCII/IIA cards.  I need to upgrade to newer hardware (PCI slots) and Windows XP professional, and ensure that these legacy DOS applications will continue to run with GPIB support.

In looking at the NI product support matrix, I see that these ISA GPIB-PCII/IIA cards are not supported in Win XP.  The new computers have only PCI slots.  Thus I must determine what new PCI based hardware & software to purchase that is supported in Win XP, and will also provide seamless support for these legacy DOS applications.

Please advise.

Hi

I advise the use of a GPIB-PCIexpress card.
The price is for all devices the same and this slot type will last longest.
An alternative is the USB-GPIB-HS but its software is a bit more unfriendly for old hardware.

greetings from the Netherlands

To add a little bit to what Albert mentioned; any of the current National Instruments GPIB offering (except ISA) will work in Windows XP. If your computer has a ethernet port, the GPIB-ENET/100 will also give you compatablility with future systems for years to come since it does not rely on any internal computer buses.

As for the software part of this question, your new GPIB card will ship with all the drivers and software you need. It includes a copy of Measurement and Automation Explorer which will manage your GPIB cards and allows you to enable a DOS support.

I would contact your local sales representative, they will be able to help pick out the perfect card for your situation.
