Why can't I see the COM ports on my PXI-8176?

On my PXI chassis, I have a PXI-8176 controller, a whole mess of other cards and a PXI-8421 card.  When I go into MAX, I can only see the ports on the 8421 (COM1 - 8), but  I see nothing related to the RS-232 ports on the controller itself? 

Any ideas?

Have you checked the device manager to see if there are 8 or 9 ports listed there?  Also, do you know if anyone has manually changed the assignment of the com ports, or if they showed up as 1-8 rather than 2-9 when the system was first set up?

We are using the chassis in real-time.  I wasn't there the first time it was powered up.  The only COM ports that show up are COM1 through COM8, all on the 8421.  Haven't ever seen anything on the controller.

I'm assuming you have a laptop or a desktop with MAX installed and you're viewing your remote PXI real time system in MAX.  Is that correct?

I understand that you see your 8 COM ports under your PXI-8421 module.  What about under Serial, do you also only see 8 ports there?
