communicating with a SORENSEN XG 600 - 1.4

Hello to everyone 🙂 

I am relatively new to labview, all I have done by now was working with some NI-daqs. So pardon me if my question involves some basic issues I haven't really understood yet.. 

Problem: I have to control a Sorensen XG 600-1.4 Power Supply through labview.

I downloaded the drivers from http://www.sorensen.com/products/XG/XG_Downloads.htm and installed the labview driver (There was no executable file in the windows driver, so I didn't really know what to do with it.)

The power supply now pops up in MAX as COM 5 and the Visa test panel and all that seem to work well, even if I really don't know what to do with it.  I tried accessing it in labview using a DAQ assistant, but it didn't pop up there...

I am using labview 2011.

If the drivers installed properly, you should find a bunch of VIs in the palette to control the instrument (likely under Instrument I/O).  It will not be using DAQmx, so the DAQ Assistant is useless in this case.

Ok, so in Labview, I go to  "instruments I/O" -> "instrument drivers"  in  the functions palette, but which do I pick then?

None of the drivers says anything like Sorensen or XG 600-1.4....

Or do I have to use the Instrument I/O assistant?

This doesn't find my power supply and tells me to go to help -> find instrument drivers (unfortunately there my device can't be detected..)

How do I find out whether the driver was installed properly? Would the device pop up in MAX if the driver wasn't installed?

Ok, I downloaded the installer.  The stupid thing will only install for LabVIEW 8.5.  So what you need to do is copy the DC850W from the LabVIEW 8.5 instr.lib (C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.5\instr.lib) and put it in the LabVIEW 2011 instr.lib (C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2011\instr.lib).  Restart LabVIEW and hopefully they will be there.

Ok, I did as I was told 🙂

Nothing changed in for the Instrument I/O Assistant or the search for drivers, but now in "Functions -> Instrument I/O -> Instrument Drivers" my power supply has appeared. 

Anyway, as soon as I try to put any of the functions in my block-dagram, i get an error.

Yeah, I'm not surprised by the dependency issue.  You can just close that dialog and save.  Doing it from the Tree VI would be best since that should have all of the VIs in it.

Now: as I have all the instruments now (thanks a lot!)  but still no clue how they work I tried to have a look at the example VI. 

Which looked great till I tried to run it, which resulted in the attached following error...

Looks like they are still pointing to the wrong location for the DLL.  Here.  I made sure everybody is pointing to the right location and upgraded the drivers to 2011.  Just unzip overtop of the old folder.

I unpacked the folder and replaced the old one in labview2011, but I keep getting the same error.. 😞
