Interesting question.  I have used compiled executables fairly extensively and while it is not a direct answer to your question, while I would start writing the program on my computer with a full license and later compile it on that one, I often installed a trial copy on the computer that the executable would be eventually used with so that I could edit and test the code out without having to trek back and forth as much to troubleshoot my programs and I never later had a problem and many times the program was last saved on the trial copy before I copied it over to my PC with the license to do the actual compiling of it.  That said I imagine there is a way they could embed the expiration into the executable.  Usually for all Demos there is a help or readme file that explains the exact limitations of the Demo version.  I wouldn't really recommend relying on it either way because you will not be able to go back and fix or change it later without a full version.
