device shutoff

Hi

I am trying to use a NI 9211 thermocouple device through the NI USB-9162 USB carrier.  I am using the DAQ assistant VI within my VI.  A problem occurs when I try to record data for long periods of time while no one is using the computer.  It appears that the devices shuts off.  The VI is still running and keeps writing to a file, but nothing from the thermocouples appears.  Why is the device shutting off?  I am using windows XP and I shutoff all the power saving features.

Thanks

Hey jc8715,

When you say the device shuts off, does it actually power down or does it simply stop acquiring data? Do you receive an error message? Also, what external connections do you have to the device? I have seen a similar situation where a USB device was powering down after a certain amount of time because the 5V supply out of it was powering a relay. This caused the device to overdraw current after some time and shutdown. You may want to try testing this by removing any external connections and seeing if you can reproduce the results.
