ethernet in long distance

good day,

i have to connect a access controll unit into a PC therefore i connect the controll board through LAN cable about 500 meters, i doubt whether this ethernet connection would effective because of long distance ,what is the best way to connect these two ?

The Ethernet Spec is only 100 meters. 

There are "Ethernet Copper Extenders" which claim to work over that distance.

Or think about about media converters to fiber. That night be more expensive but less prone to problems due to potential differences.
