help with the using GPIB-USB-HS controller and CB7210.2 chip

Has anyone had trouble getting the CB7210.2 GPIB Controller chip working in a custom application? I am having trouble getting and sending data to the chip. I think the chip is being configured properly, but I am not receiving any data?

Thanks in advance

Have you tried contacting Measurement Computing, the maker of the CB7210?

Yes, I contacted Measurement Computing and they said they cannot help me. They said that they do not have technical help with OEM parts. And this chip is pretty complex, all they could do is point me to their document. Bottomline is Measurement Computing feel's that most OEM's use this chip and they already know what they are doing!

Thanks for the prompt reply and suggestion, Lonzell

Since their web site says it is compatible with the old NEC uPD7210, you might try doing a search for information on that IC. I know that it was used quite a bit until NEC stopped making it.

That's not a bad idea, there are a bunch of new registers that the CB7210.2 has, but maybe I can get enough info on the old NEC uPD7210, that can help me figure out the CB7210.2 chip.

Thanks Lonzell

The CB7210 should be register compatible with the NAT7210. I am curious as to why you chose the MCC CB7210 as opposed to the NI NAT7210 as they are the same price and functionality. Was the package the determining factor? I see the CB7210 is available in a QFP but the NI NAT7210 is only available in a DIP.

I did not choose it, our customer chose it as part of their AT89C51RD2 controller board design. My company was given the task of writing the firmware for the microcontroller and gpib controller. Also, I think you may be right about the package type, we are using a QFP package.

I may be able to help with the firmware. Lets take the case of writing data from the GPIB-USB to the 7210. Can you run NI-Spy on the system with the GPIB-USB and see what is happening on the bus? Are you getting any interrupt or status bits on the 7210? Have you verified your register access functions work?

Yes, I can run NI-Spy. My first question was is the 7210 being configured/initialized properly, and how can I determine that? I can ask the EE on the project to help me out with checking whether or not I am getting an interrupt and also the state of the status bits. I think that is what you are referring too, correct? I can send you my configuration code, to start with if you want me too? Also, can I call you on the phone, I think it might go faster if we can talk directly? Or if you prefer you can call me at 781-314-0745, that's my direct line.

Can you read some status registers in the 7210? For example the ADSR at offset 4? The power-pon value of that register should be 0x40.
