hi!
i'd like to uninstall an old version of Ni 488.2 driver that is not working, to install a newer version of the same driver on a pc with Windows 2000 OS. unfortunately i'm not able to do that because despite the driver is avaiable in the software section, it is not avaiable in the change/remove section. What is the problem? can i uninstall the driver in another way?
Thank you in advance.

Hello Andrew,
you can install the newest driver of NI 488.2 without installing the older one. The new one will overwrite the last.
You should have to be sure that the drivers you will install support Windows 2000.

thanks for the answer.
i' ve tried to install the newest driver version compatible with windows 2000 but i can't without uninstalling the older driver. every time i try to do it a note comes out and says that i can't continue the install of the driver only if i uninstall the older one.

I think I may be having the same problem. Mine is on an XP machine. I want to install the newer 488 driver (3.1.1) but the install fails and says that it has detected that a "legacy" 488 driver is installed. It will NOT let me continue.
But there are NO 488 drivers listed under add/remove programs. I tried the Revo uninstaller and it didn't show anything different.
Under the National Instruments program group, there are lot of items, but none of them say anything about 488. I don't want to remove my entire labview install!
Is there something that's hidden? Maybe an incomplete uninstall?
Thanks
Dan

I was able to install the new driver, like this:
I installed an older driver first (488.2 ver 2.4 I think).
Then, I used Revo uninstaller to remove that driver, and allowed Revo to scan for "left-overs" after the uninstall. In my case, it found one Registry entry, and I told it to delete it.
After that, I could install the newest driver with no issues.
Now I'm back to my original problem, trying to get this old old old program to talk to the GPIB...
