no visa resource on laptop

im using an xbee transciever and have trouble finding the Com port in labview, i know it is installed because i have seen it in device manager and X-CTU software that i have which reads the xbee fine.  but when i use "basic serial read and write program this com port is not available under the resource name.

Having the com port in windows device manager is not that relevant. In order to use LabVIEW, you have to install NI-VISA and the port has to be seen in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).

NI-VISA is a hardware driver and it only gets installed if you use the drivers DVD and select it to be installed. If you have MAX on the pc, you can expand the 'Software' listing and see if it's there. If you don't have MAX, then I doubt that you have VISA.
