scan for instruments/Serial

Hi there,

I am trying to communicate with preamplifier RS-560 through rs-232 cable 9-25 pins.

I am using the labview programs ( i use labview 😎 from sr website, but  the instrument is not comunicating with the comp.

I see that if you open measurements and automation there is an option  scan for instruments for GPIB ports, but not such for serial ports. My question is how do I understand that the instrument is conected to the comp in the first place?

Thank you,

The easiest is to send out a command and see on the instruments front that something is received.

The reasons for not communicating with a serial connection are many, but mostly it is the wrong cabling, especially with 25 pole connectors.

It is said that RS232 means regularly soldering 2->3->2 menain the swap of pins because the pins 2 and 3 carry the send and receive wires or vice versa.

So when you are sure that baudrate, number of bits and the wires are correct, you still have the handshake wires and the best you can do is try without handshake to begin with.

Often people say try with  hyperterminal, but the only difference with LabVIEW is the automatic adding of CR and LF that are also easily added in LabVIEW.

Goodluck
