spectrum analyzer Agilent 4395A GPIB tu USB

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello everyone,

I am using a GPIB to USB cable to connect my computer (windows 10 pro, 64bits) to a spectrum analyser, But "measurment and Automation" does not recognize the cable  (see picture GPIB-USBattached) and it gives me the error:

"This GPIB device is not a genuine National Instruments product and is not supported by the installed NI-488.2 software (Error code: -37056)"

According to some source online and it may be a clone product that look like genuine National instrument but is not.

I have already re-installed Labview and the drive several times but it is still not working.

A orange light is lit on on the GPIB connector (see picture "28810561" attached)

Have you ever had a similar problem ?  or do you have any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

I am not sure what you expect us to help with.

You bought a counterfeit product. Return it for a refund.

Thanks Smiley Happy

Well the reason I'm asking is I would like to be sure the problem is coming from the cable and not me, before to ship the unit back.

Maybe I am not using the cable or the software properly.

Hi,

We have the same problem when working on LabView 2017.

According to NI, the errors appears from 17.6 version of NI 488.2. NI has introduced a check to verify that GPIB hardware is a genuine one.

If you have a look on NIMAX you will see the error.

They say that there is no lock if a non genuine hardware is detected, only a warning on MAX.

Hope this help.

Chris.

Thanks Smiley Happy

But I have more than just a warning message.

When I try to run a program I have the following error message. And I can't run the file.

Best regards

Same for us...

For information we have successfully made our Visual Basic program works after restarting the computer.

Like you, we have the error on LabView but we will try others tests tomorrow. Computer working on Labview can't be restarted until tomorrow.

I will let you know results.

Best regards.

Chris.

Oliver:

I highly suspect it is counterfeit- I entered the S/N shown in your image '0164FA57' to try to register it under 'My Products', it was rejected.

Is this a rental unit?

Have you called Test Equipment Solutions and asked them about it?

Hi thanks for your replies,

NI max tells me that my serial number is "0164FA57", but when I read the label on the product it written serial NO : "164FA57" (see picture below).

However, when I entered "164FA57" on "my product" it showed me the wrong product "NI 2813B 4X21, 1 A 2-WIRE REED MATRIX FOR NI SWITCHBLOCK" (see picture below).

That means it is counterfeit right ? It can only be one single Part NO for each product, can't it ?

Hi,

Yes, I'm afraid it all seems to indicate that the product is not NI genuine, because, as you said, there is only one Part Number for each product.

I've seen this problem with other customers and they aren't able to use the cables because they are not compatible with the IEEE 488.2 protocol, as a genuine NI product is. I'm sorry that you had to go through this bad experience.
