usb to serial problem (Error - 1073807342)

Solved!

Hello,

I have a question regarding using third party usb to serial cable. I am trying to interface with a GPS using this cable. Using the VI, I have no trouble communicating with Labview on my laptop but when I transfer the VI over to my work computer. It throws me an error.

Error - 1073807342 occurred at Property Node (arg1) in Basic Serial Write and Read.vi

Possible reason(s):

VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF0012) Invalid resource reference specified. Parsing Error

I am using the same version of Labview on both computers, Labview 8.5 and the only difference between the two machines is that my laptop uses Windows Vista and my work computer uses Windows XP. I have installed the driver for the cable in both machines. I have tried to communicate with it using HyperTerminal and that works. The VI just contains a modified version of the GPS VI from labview and the basic serial read and write VI.

I tried to use MAX to see if anything happens. But the device status says :

MAX could not open a VISA session to this static device. The device was not returned from VISA when finding resources, but MAX was able to use VISA to parse the resource name.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mandy

Hey Mandy,

Seems like you do not have NI-VISA on the work computer. Try installing it along with the cable driver and you should be good to go. You can get the latest version of NI-VISA here.

Good luck
