When a subVI is created on the block diagram of a VI, it takes on the class or library of the calling VI.
When a control is created on the block diagram or front panel of a VI, it doesn't take on any ownership at all. It is just placed in the top level hierarchy in the project.
In the illustration below, this isn't a big deal because the project is empty. This becomes a bigger problem when there are dozens of classes and folders to sift through to find the original class by which the control was meant to be owned.
