Add a numeric indicator when creating / adding inputs

When I creat a String or similar input/output I have to count the boxes until I have the right number I wan t.  I would propose adding a numeric indicator to show how many inputs/outputs youve've created instead of having to count them every time.  This is similar to the indicato of the number of rows or colums that appear in spreadsheets when you are selecting individaul cells.

If you can mock up a screenshot that explains what you are looking for, it goes a long way towards generating support for your idea.
