Always display the full value of a control or indicator in the help window

Status: New

Quite often I stumble over a control or indicator that truncates a value

/ because that *#~%! - programmer didn't think of it Smiley Mad

/very nice if it's a runtime, and I can't change it ....  Oh, where is the data stored? At least the drive is shown 😉 /

So why not always display the full value in the help window ?

Full value in Help window.png

It'd be nice if when you copied the truncated value to the clipboard you got the whole thing rather than the displayed value.  Just like if I copy the displayed address from my browser I get http:// even though it isn't displayed.  Maybe it works that way already - I've never checked.

The other option would be to display the full path if someone clicks in the box.  It'd be a little odd to scroll back and forth, but at least all the data would be there.  It could revert back to the truncated value when you click out of the box.

Why not? Off the top of my head, I would imagine that would cause the CH to explode for large arrays, graph values, etc. and because we'd have to hook in the CH every time a control updated while a VI was running, with a mutex on mouse movement or something else for the thread synchronization since at any given moment, any control might be the one in the display.

I take it that selecting the text and copying to a different location isn't an option for you?

It does work like that already.

OK ... see the problem with the CH 🙂

something like TIP STRIP  .... for any single number or string/path ???

Or if truncated, rotate while mouse over ( I have to check the disabled controls...)
