Auto start search in pallet on typing

Which I right click to get the pallet, if I wish to search I need to click search. Can we skip the extra step and typing when in the pallet should automatically search for functions.

Quick Drop does this for you.  Type Ctrl+Space and start typing.

Qquickdrop does, but would be nice to also have it in the pallet.

IMO this idea is only a half-step.  The palette search and QuickDrop are both just fine and dandy for you text lovers out there who prefer your results as a wall of text.  On the other hand, I prefer graphical results so I will post another screenshot of my little SpeedDrop tool which does precisely what this idea suggests.

It is launched via Ctrl-Space, but does not close after selection, and the results of the search are presented in a form much more comfortable for me:

So, if the idea was to replace the palette search with a graphical version, AND start the search automatically, then I would be totally in favor.

So Darin, are you still just teasing us with this (5 years later), or sharing it?

I may be able to revisit sharing the code now.  Originally I nuked QD and simply hijacked Ctrl-Space.  No bother to me, but I figured others may still like it as an option (I still don't miss it).  A silly bug/feature in the QD code prevented me from simply reusing the existing QD implementation.  I worked around it by completely rewriting QD, but it did seem silly to reinvent the wheel.  Now I think the bug is fixed so I may look into this again.
