Create a public bug-tracking dashboard

Status: New

Almost every widely-used software framework, ecosystem, IDE, ... has a public bug-tracking dashboard where bugs can be:

  • reported
  • monitored
  • voted
  • ...

Jira or Mantis are quite common solution.

As a NI user, the current situation it's really frustrating: even for bugs originally reported by me, the ticket is created by a NI engineer.

And so I don't know what information it contains, its priority, if someone is working on it, if it has been already solved, ...

Many years ago NI was a pioneer with the community, but now is ages behind everyone else.

Hi Vix,

100% with your idea. More transparency will help a lot. I ask support to report bug. But you need to create a new support to have an update on it and finally discover that nothing appends and finally they close the bug.

Make it more transparent and accessible will help user, and may reduce request to support team only for update.

All the interaction ideas, estimated fix date, etc are great, but even publishing known issues in a read-only format anywhere would be a huge improvement.

The only ways I know to discover bugs with released software are posts on ni.com and other forums, and the incredibly frustrating process of opening a service request and getting back a bug number for a previously reported issue. If I am taking the time to report an issue it means I have already wasted hours or days of my EXPENSIVE time studying and trying to fix it myself.

Just tell me what you know, NI! The status quo is totally unacceptable given the quantity and severity of bugs I've come to expect.
