It would be useful to be able to create a cluster of references by selected a group of controls /indicators from block diagram

The Idea I linked doesn't put them into a cluster, but I think that I'd rather keep them seperate and put them in a cluster myself.
The original Idea has a pretty vague title, so it's kind of hard to find. I don't blame you for posting it again.
The JKI right click framework has a plugin to create a cluster or array of references from a group of selected controls/indicators that essentially does what you want.
