Delete object from wire and auto-reconnect wire

Status: Declined
Available in NI LabVIEW 2009

I'd like to be able to delete an object from an existing wire and then have that wire be automatically reconnected.  Currently a broken wire is left after deleting something and one must manually reconnect the wire.  This would be the opposite of the popup option to Insert something.  Some deletions may produce a maze of broken wires that would be difficult to determine what to auto-reconnect but perhaps situations where there is only one broken wire (for example removing a Numeric Increment function (+1) from a wire) could be handled.

Great idea!  That sounds like something you could create as a plugin for the JKI Right-Click Framework.

I've always wanted this also. Right click on an object and select "Replace->Wire"

It would not be unreasonable to find a feature along these lines in a future LabVIEW release.  🙂

(...and if you don't like the way I did it, you can take Jim's advice above...)

I just read on Darren's blog yesterday about this feature. Highlight the code you want to replace, hit CTRL+Space to bring up Quick Drop, and immediately hit CTRL+R (I'm guessing R stands for "Remove" or "Replace with Wire"... regardless of what it stands for, REMEMBER it!).

So remember: Highlight, CTRL+Space, CTRL+R

I used this today about two dozen times... no joke, and I'm in love. I showed it off to a colleague, and he liked it too.

So, if you have LabVIEW 2009, you have this feature!!!

By the way... it's WAY better than just deleting a single object. We were highlighting WHOLE CHUNKS of code, and it was correctly removing and rewiring!!!! Very, very impressive. A better solution than I could have even desired. Thanks, Darren.

Glad you like it Jack.  Make sure to send me any additional feedback you have on this feature.  Also, are you sufficiently happy with this solution that we can mark the idea as "Complete"?

I am changing the status from Completed to Declined because Completed should only be ideas that R&D say on Idea Exchange, actively developed on it based on the idea, and it was added to the product
