Hide Run Continuously by default

Status: New

When do I use the Run Continuously button?

Almost Never. And most times I hit it, it's an accident and it's a pain.

PLEASE hide it by default on all new VIs.

You won't believe me when I say it's not... but it's not.

I agree, But I prefer it to be a LabVIEW ini token, (to show or hide the run contineous for new VIs). Some thing similar to Automatic Error handling options in the LabVIEW.ini.

As the user needs, allow user to configure them.

Don't move it or remove

But perhaps you can put a warning dialog for those who are click happy  - especially when you have code that removes the menu bar with the stop button..

|I have actually done that a couple of time... and thankfully I knew about the ctrl "." button - (thanks mac users)

Please don't change this. I can just see when this button goes away, there will be an idea the following year to bring it back. Make the environment more configurable and done with it.

Interesting thread

@Yair- Nice tip, TY

@AQ- I believe you-

An ini token (defaulted to current behavior) seems reasonable if it doesn't slow down Ctrl+N.  Although, I only use that for forum work or scratch code (Ctrl+~ fires File>>New...  on machines with my ini)

This has bugged me for years, but I only just now thought to post a suggestion here. At which point I found this thread. In addition to it being "unnecessary" on the front panel (at least for me and half of all LV users), it can be a real pain in certain situations. I just ran into this today: I hit the Continuous Run by mistake, instead of Run, and because of the modal windows involved, I couldn't stop it. I had to kill LV, and risk losing work.

I understand Aristos point about half of users wanting and liking it. But how about this? Make it an environment variable. Leave it as is by default. No one should then complain. (Well, someone somewhere will...) But for the half of us who don't like it, we can check one box once in the Tools that says "Continuous Run only on Block Diagram" and it will never bother us again. (Edit - to be fair, I did just notice that this was already suggested as well.)

You're in luck... LabVIEW NXG currently has no Continuous Run button and there's a debate raging about whether to add it or not. Pretty much mirrors this thread. 😉

Thanks for the update. I was hoping NXG might bring some relief!

I personally like the idea of hiding the Run Continuous as a right-click option on the run button.  It is there for those who want it, but it will rarely be accidentally pressed.
