Make structure corners non-magnetic for tunnels.

Status: New

Re-opening because LabVIEW NXG has been discontinued.

This is one of those existing "features" that I cannot understand, no matter how long I ponder why it is implemented this way. (WHY!!!?????). Somebody must have consciously programmed this behavior in the early days of LabVIEW, but I simply don't get it. 😉

Try the following yourself and you'll see what I mean: 😄

  1. Create a structure (For loop, while loop, case, event, etc) with a few tunnels.
  2. Select one of the tunnels, and, using the arrow keys move it towards one of the structure corners.
  3. Observe: As soon as we move within a few pixels of the corner, the tunnel jumps to the corner and can no longer be moved with the arrow keys alone.
  4. To move it away again, we need to grab it with the cursor using the mouse and move it at least a few pixels away from the corner or use "shift-arrow" to move it by a bigger step. THis should not be necessary.

Idea: There should be no such stickyness!

IF a tunnel is moved towards a structure corner with the arrow keys, it should simply stop moving at the corner and we should be able to move it away again by pressing the opposite arrow key (or the arrow key following around the corner by 90 degrees)

This one has always been a "gotcha" for me. LabVIEW is like, "Haha, you can't make a tight For Loop with straight wires! Gotcha!"

I will gladly be the first to give support on this.

Have a feeling this was somehow part of the "What do we do if someone shrinks the edge of the structure beyond the position of the tunnel?" implementation.  Long overdue to fix it.

Amen to that! This "feature" is quite annoying.

I guess I never thought about it, but why the heck does this "sticky structure corners" feature exist?  Only to annoy us?

It's very anoying!! There is the possibility to get the tunnel in the 'jumping' area around the edges: put the tunnel to the edge and downsize the structure. Smiley Very Happy but if i want to have it in the corner this is useless!!

A tunnel in a corner almost always results in an invisible wire.

I have hated this "feature" for a long time.

Available in LabVIEW NXG 1.0. Tunnels are no longer magnetic to corners, and can continue to be moved along a side with the arrow keys regardless of how close to the corners they become.

Since NXG is no longer maintained, this fix should also trickle down to classic LabVIEW, of course.
