Project Explorer title in Windows Taskbar

Status: New

When I have multiple LabVIEW projects open at the same time, the Windows 7 Taskbar (with Taskbar buttons configured to Never Combine) button associated with the project always shows the text "Project Explorer", no matter which project it is. So all four projects I have open right now all read the same thing. It would nice, just like gmail has done, to be able to change that so that the actual filename comes first, followed by any other text you might want.

Sounds like a nice idea to me as long as it gets implemented along with http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Different-Icons-for-FP-BD-Project-windows-in-windows-t...

Without the icon change you might have a project window that shows on the task bar as "Test System - Project Explorer" and also a VI named something like "Test System Front Panel".  If you've got a lot of things open and these get truncated you might get "Test System..." and "Test System..."  Without different icons you wouldn't be able to tell the two apart - something that at least works well with the current system.

Re: Wart,

I quite agree. In fact, I was on the point of including verbiage to that effect, but then I remembered seeing what is probably the Idea to which you linked. I didn't want to duplicate. There should be different Windows icons in the taskbar for FP's, BD's, controls, projects, and any other major types of code like Xcontrols. The idea I presented seems to have been hinted at by Kjell-Edmund in the comments of the idea to which you linked, but it's not quite the same. In any case, the words Project Explorer are long enough to obliterate anything else in the Taskbar button, even when there's no truncation due to having many windows open simultaneously.

I was on my way to implementing the change to the text -- it struck me as a good idea and I could probably do it in a single line of code change. But that's not my usual area of the code, and there's no way I'm going to be implementing the icon change. So should I abort working on this? Projects and VIs rarely have the same name in my personal code, but other people work differently.

What about a VI that is used by two open projects?
