Quick VI icon creation

The icon editor introduced in 2009 makes creating a VI icon faster, but there is still some room for improvement. Often, creating a VI icon simply means putting some text on the icon.

What would happen if we had a very quick way of doing this?

IDEA - add a button near the icon which will automatically generate the icon based on the VI name:

Clicking this button will automatically generate an icon with some text (and possibly glyphs as well?) based on the VI's name.

Don't like the icon? Click the button again and the algorithm will try a different version. Maybe over time the algorithm can learn your preferences.

While we're at it, why not have this function execute when saving an untitled VI that has a default icon?  I might have passed the CLD with such a feature.. 😛

I'm not so sure it is a duplicate.  It seems to be the opposite direction of what the other thread is.  That one is name VI based on icon.  This one is create icon based on VI name.  Plus, this idea came long before the other one.

That said, perhaps both ways of doing this are handled by NXG, and the result is they are completed.

Sorry, I misunderstood the idea. AQ pointed out that this idea would involve generating an icon that included glyphs. Since this is not something that is currently planned, for either LabVIEW or LabVIEW NXG, I will move the idea back to 'New'.

Well I just wasted my time making a little picture explaining what I thought would be a great feature, only to find it here already... +1 Kudo!
