Support Naming of Panes and Splitters

Status: Declined

There should be some way to name splitters and panes on the FP. It's annoying that they are just generically named, e.g. "Splitter 2" or "Pane 3". Especially when, over the course of development, you add more in between existing ones....often I've been confused by the fact I have 3 horizontal splitters that are numbered 1, 3, 2 from top to bottom.

Same thing with the panes they separate. I want to be able to refer to the "graph" pane and the "toolbar" pane, etc. And see the associated references, property/invoke nodes use that same nomenclature for clarity on the BD.

Haven't had my coffee this morning. I think I meant the title to be "Add Naming..."

You should still be able to edit the title.

If not, send a message to the moderator asking for it to be changed.

Yeah. Just didn't look hard enough for the edit option. Got it now. Thanks, RavensFan.

This should already be possible, I believe for both splitters and panes. I don't have LV open, but I believe you need to do it from the properties dialog (probably right click the scroll bar or splitter, then select the pane, the properties).

Ahh. I see now. Thanks, tst!Smiley Very Happy

You can set the name of Panes via the properties window (right click on splitter>[Upper/Lower/Left/Right] Pane>Properties). For Splitters, it doesn't appear that you can get a Properties window. But you can make the label visible (rightclick>visible items>label) and edit it that way.

Yes, you can already do this but it can be quite painful to access properties like this by right-clicking the splitter bar and navigating a bunch of nested menus... and worse when the splitter is 2px wide and invisible! Another "feature" is that existing names are lost if a new pane is added, requiring a bunch more complex mouse operations to rectify. So yes, it is possible, but it could certainly be easier!

FYI, a very handy shortcut menu plugin for editing the labels on splitters (among other helpful features) can be found here:
