Tab Control Run-Time Menu for Each Tab (page)

Status: Declined
Moved to CAR database. CAR#285134

Currently (up through LV2010) the only run-time menu (RTM) available for a tab control is for the entire tab control, not for the individual pages (tabs). The right-click context menu (Description and Tip, Help, etc.) for each page only works at design time, not at run time. This is true of both the default or a custom RTM.

Why is it called a "run-time menu" if it doesn't work at run time? I consider this a bug, but it probably is just an oversight in the design. (I suppose that technically this is not a "bug" because I cannot find this feature, an RTM for each tab or page, documented.)

Anyone else think this a useful product improvement?

Why was the status changed to "Declined"? That implies that the idea was not accepted as a useful/good idea. Shouldn't there be a status such as "Accepted" or "Up for Consideration"? (Or maybe the status should be "In Development"?)

Declined is just the category we use for something that's a bug.  It's a great idea, but it doesn't really belong in the idea exchange beause it's actually a bug.  You can tell NI employees on the NI site because their theee-piece icon (to the left of their names) is blue instead of yellow

Thanks! Some NI employees indicate that below their signature. I didn't know what the color of the 3-piece icon meant. Great. (What do the different shades of blue mean?)

And thanks for agreeing that it is a bug as opposed to "behavior not thought of".

I searched in vain to find a web page devoted to bug reporting... Thanks for getting a CAR, but according to Ben's post there doesn't seem to be any way to track it.

Consider supporting an issue tracking system that has greater visibility/usability than the current CAR system. Smiley Wink

Yes. Blue names on the forums are NI. Gray names are non-NI. And, yes, it can be a difference of opinion, but in this particular case, this certainly feels buggy -- there's unexpected behavior -- and it will get more attention as a CAR. As an idea, it is unlikely to ever get attention from a high number of kudos. As a CAR, it may get fixed in passing by the developer that owns that feature the next time that control gets worked on.

There may be in the future, but your idea would still go to the Declined pile now that I moved to track it as a bug.

Here is the explanation of the glyphs.

Thanks. You guys are great. Kudos to you all.

On "is it a bug or not" question, it's amazing that such a simple issue about the tab control has been overlooked all this time! This is why "spontaneous order" works better than "central planning". Ha.

One more question: Will Aristos Queue (who created the CAR #285134) "report" this per the LabVIEW Wiki (LabVIEW Bug Reporting on the LabVIEW Wiki)?

No. Everything listed there is lead up to getting a CAR filed. This supercedes that, at least as far as NI is concerned. If you wish to report this on LAVA, go ahead.
