Visual Aides - Numeric Separators

Status: New

Why not create the option to change how the data is viewed on screen, similar to formatting in Excel or the Calculator function?

This could also be used for a hex display (I.E. FFFF FFFF), octal or even binary.  Options could be expanded to include how many characters before separation and what to use as a separator.

Then be sure to give the idea a Kudos.  That is what is looked at when determining what to work on, not random comments.

For numbers the separator must be linked to the regional settings (Windows)  In my company we use the standard international settings but in my country (The Netherlands and other countries)  the decimal sign is a comma.

In the meantime, anyone know of a freely available .net or ActiveX numeric element that offers such formatting options?

ALERT! LabVIEW's subscription-only policy came to an end (finally!). Unfortunately, pricing favors the captured and committed over new adopters -- so tread carefully.

Great Idea! I am struggling to make an interface that indicates and controls frequencies up to

20000000000 HZ  -vs- 20,000,000,000 HZ. Visually you can see the problem and the aid that "eye place holders" can perform. So I blow it up big, make the contrast between back and forground max. There is no way around it. The customer will likely be making many adjustments, and needs something to quickly find his place and keep it through multiple glances.

I had my first customer ask me to use this formatting on a numeric display the other day. Well, what do you know, it doesn't exist. So I'm voting it up. I'll just tell my customer to ask me again in 8 years. Perhaps it will be implemented by then.

BTW, LabVIEW already is localization aware. So those worried about local decimal notation, don't worry.

And up again, it's 2019

Screens and graphics allow a more easy way (better readability) to display long numbers (on each side of the decimal seperator).

Numeric inputs and outputs of a modern UI should be able to group the numbers with fractions of a space (I would prefer as a general seperator).

And don't miss the scales !!

and with equal spaces number fonts as default  😉

Henrik, that link's dead unfortunately. (Also serving as a "bump" to hopefully get more views and kudos!)
