Wire label location

LabVIEW 2010 introduces a new feature to label wires and associate this label with the wire. This is a great idea. However, the text goes over the middle of the wire and there is no way to change/customize this.

To me, wire labels should be above the wire. This is the convention on circuit diagrams. Placing a label on a wire "breaks" the wire and, to me, is similar bad-form to placing any other object on a wire.

So what I would like is shown below. There should at least be an option to allow the wire's label to be above the wire.

Questions / random thoughts.

Would this be combined with a fix for the bug must deselect visable wire labels before drag-drop across structure boundry?

Do we need the line fill for multi-pixel wires? (arrays, classes, clusters DVRs etc) or is the outside color enough at a single pixel width?

IF single pixel boundry: DVRs, Queues, and  Notifier label boundrys take the inside color?

Would this auto-rotate for vertical segments?  Wire direction is determinable so we could keep the text in line with up/down segments.   for Right-Left segments perhaps a "<" pre- and post- pended automatically? What about short segments (Autogrow segment? or straighten wire?)  

Dragged along the wire only?  dragging off the wire doesn't seem like it would add any benifit. 

Force single line label?  limited font sizes?  Hey, its a wire not a post-it note right?  My issue here is adding more height to a wire than a terminal, Global, local or server referance.    Those a hard enough to wire to concatinate, build array ,format to String, etc... as is.

Opinions: 

I don't like the auto fill color. I would keep it transparent (or BD background) with an ini selection for preferance.

Shape: |__> Pentagon with two sides parallel to the wire POINTING in the wire direction! AH-HA!

Anybody noticed that when you move a wire up or down using the arrow keys, the wire label is lagging behind?
