Wishes for better UI handling

Status: New

Hello all!

Either all or some of these have surely been wished/requested before, but were unheard, since LV lacks them since 20 years.

  • Zoomable front panel and block diagram (Ctrl key modifier)
  • Reset front panel position to origin (the dot/cross) by one click
  • Lock front panel background from movement when designing UIs

Reset to originhttps://forums.ni.com/t5/Quick-Drop-Enthusiasts/Quick-Drop-Plugin-Reset-Origin/td-p/3527195. Or Ctrl+Space > Ctrl+F if you want to clean up everything too.

Backgound: A background of a pane does not move. What do you mean?

If its not semantic zoom you want, look here.

Or use Zoomit

Here I was excited that someone else out there wants NI to implement extendable UI handling so we're not tied to one giant Event Structure. But it's just another request for zoom, oh well...

In the context of the other requests, I assume locking the background means disabling scrolling. Even with scrollbars disabled you can still get misalignment.

  • There should only be one idea per post in the ideas exchange so it can be marked correctly (duplicate, implemented, in beta, new, etc.)
  • It would have taken little effort to find ideas that have already been posted, so don't create duplicates.
  • There can only be a limited amount of "one click" operations, and resetting the front panel is probably not a priority. (In my programming, the origin never moves!). Currently we have "menu...edit...adjust pane origin", basically a mouse down, slide...release. Almost as fast as a "one click".
  • Again, why would you move the front panel around it you don't want to? What even is the "front panel background"?

The only thing I can think of is this:

But it's about the only thing on a front panel that doesn't move 🤔.

I thought it was the background image too first, but maybe he has something else underneath his controls and find it hard to move just the "top layer". But that can be solved with locking a control.

Anyway, this idea shows that it is a good idea to first discuss your idea in the forum.
