XY graph palette

Status: Declined

I am missing plot color palette selection. Standard Color set for multiplot graphs is good for black or dark background, not for white. One of automatically generate color is white.

You can write a small subVI that does that.

I am not sure why you want to limit this idea to xy graphs. It should apply equally to all graphs and charts, right?

Yes, this option can be in any type of graph.

Hi Darren, I doubt this idea will get any kudos in the next two months, but it has not been a year since it was posted yet.

For the idea itself, I think I originally assumed that it wanted plot colors to change when I change the background color for a chart or graph control (and therefore didn't kudo it).

However, I then dropped some Silver chart and graph controls in LabVIEW 2014 (remembering that silver controls have white backgrounds).  The silver controls have a default background color of white, and Plots 4 and 10 are not really visible with their default colors.  Plot 4 is a barely visible light green, and Plot 10 is white.  Plots 1 through 10 repeat if you have more than 11 plots.  Fortunately, I don't use silver controls and rarely have more than two or three active plots on my graphs.  Changing these default colors to something more visible is a good (but very low importance for me) idea.

Sorry about that, I mis-read the original posting date. I'm re-opening the idea to see if it can get more kudos before the one year deadline.

I don't understand what the suggestion is? To have an interface that allows the user  to define a sequence of colors (and styles, etc) for a given graph? For all graphs?

This is indeed missing, but as Altenbach said, this can easily be made into a dedicated dialog VI for instance, that you could call from a user rightl-click menu item.

However, I agree that since it would probably be needed for many, it doesn't make much sense to do it over and over again by different people.

It might be time to start a open source project of added functionalities for the Graphs, which I have very little hope will ever be fundamentally modified, considering that NI released a revamped (and feature-starved) new set of 2D plots a few years ago.

I have for instance a bunch of subVIs to delete a plot, remove a data point from a plot, fit a model to a plot, etc, in a XY graph, which I am constantly reusing, and which only require me to add a user item to the contextual menu of the graph where I need the functionality. I suppose they could be useful for others too.

As for the "dead if one year old without Kudo" notion, I just gave your idea a one year lease and hereby formally express my dislike for this new policy, since sometimes ideas are ahead of their time., not mentioning that if not kudoed within a week or two, they slip into oblivion due to the poor design of the Lithium forum.

Or rename this category as "Feature Suggestion" rather than "Idea Exchange". Ideas don't have expiration dates...
