adding more intelligence to File handling functions

Status: Declined

Problem: while handling file I/O functions , connecting the wires between File functions like Reference , Error etc. takes time.

Solution: some of File I/O function intelligent(auto) wiring by keeping function on top of one function and dragging the function.

Quick Drop CTRL+W makes this very fast.

And QD CTRL+SHIFT+I inserts and rewires very fast.

I can't follow your steps 1-5. Is this just to demonstrate that it takes a lot of time to insert?

Is this just for File IO functions?

Am I right that you are suggesting that dropping a function on some wires auto wires the function?

Yes, just for demonstrate the idea.

Yes, while placing function on top and moving , it should auto wires.

Quick addendum on Wiebe's response:  When inserting to multiple wires, you select the wires, open QuickDrop with Ctrl+Space, type in the name of the function to insert, and then with Ctrl+Shift+I.

I can see how it would be useful, maybe even expected (esp. when new to LV), to auto wire a function when dropped on wires.

I guess if you have a numeric wire, and drop a Increment on it, LabVIEW could automatically wire it.

Not sure how it scales up with complexity, but that does seems pretty fantastic at first.

I'm considering to like the idea...

This has been discussed multiple times. The QuickDrop solution is our answer to this request. Simply attaching to nodes that happen to eclipse wires is something we consider to be too error prone. That specific gesture was re-evaluated for LabVIEW NXG and also rejected.
