alphabetize controls in the Edit Event Case dialog

Alphabetically ordering the pop-up local and global variable lists was a boon to those of us with dozens of controls and indicators in a VI. Something similar should be done for the Edit Event Case screen: order the list of controls/indicators alphabetically.

thanks,

Dan

This has been suggested multiple times. This is the earliest - http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Provide-sorting-options-for-controls-under-Edit-Events...

You should try searching before posting ideas.

A search for "alphabetize edit event case" turns up... just my post. Maybe somebody should alphabetize the Idea Exchange!

Your search is far too specific. I would have searched for "case structure" and then refined from there.

You're right, but a search for "case structure" turns up 340 ideas. I don't consider it a reasonable task to sift through all those to figure out if any correspond to my idea. Which brings up more ideas:

- NI must have somewhere a concise, well-structured and categorized list of ideas for LabView it has gleaned from this forum and maybe elsewhere. If that list was published, along with status and links to the original posts, it would make it a lot easier to determine ahead of time if your latest idea has already been submitted, implemented, in development or rejected.

- Barring that, a 'View Ideas...' filter to view only original (no duplicate) ideas might help reduce the clutter one needs to wade through in searching for previous submissions.

Either of these worth submitting?

Search engines have improved a lot (although I hesitate to include the one NI uses in that group), but searching can still be an art sometimes. In this case, combinations of the following words would be relevant: event, structure, dialog, sort, filter, alphabetic, edit, etc.

Providing a limited list is generally impractical for a number of reasons. Searching allows you to create this filter. If you want to search only in ideas (and not comments), you can try limiting the advanced search not to search for posts with "re:" in them (which the comments should get automatically).
