bipolar log graph

Hi,

I would recommend bipolar logarithmic scales in graphs or a new graph-type. This one: http://www.didactronic.de/Halbleiter+Dioden/diodenkennl2.gif is not log-sclaed, but it woul make sense.

Sure the log of negative values is not defined (and I think it is calculated to plot the data), but to plot measured data it would be great to calculate it like:

measurement / abs(measurement) * log (abs(measurement))

I could do this manually, but I prefer to have the real values on the scales, and not the log(measurement)-Value.

kind regards

I honestly don't know why all data plotting programs don't do this... I've been wanting this for a long time.

I talked to some more people, and they all say the same: but the negative log isn't defined. They all do not understand that I don't want calculate the log of negative values, I want a log-scale with positive and nagative values...

The plotting programs don't do this because it is quite easy just to calculate the log of the value, if they just use my formula instead the problem would be fixed quite easy.
